                          Overview                 Fourteen-year-old Cassidy Jones wakes up the morning after a minor accident in the laboratory of a world-renowned geneticist to discover that her body has undergone some bizarre physical changes. Her senses, strength, and speed have been radically enhanced.

After exploring her newfound abilities, Cassidy learns that the geneticist, Professor Serena Phillips, is missing and that foul play is suspected. Terrified that her physical changes and Professor Phillips' disappearance are somehow connected, Cassidy decides to keep her strange transformation a secret. That is, until she meets the professor's brilliant and mysterious fifteen-year-old son, Emery. An unlikely duo, they set out to find Emery's mother, who is key in explaining Cassidy's newly acquired superpowers.

Their lives are put at risk when they find themselves embroiled in a dangerous, action-packed adventure. Soon they are forced to confront a maniacal villain willing to do anything - including murder - to reach his own ambitious goals.

Cassidy Jones and the Secret Formula would fall into the science fiction category in novels. The story of Cassidy Jones who has a journalist for a father who on one of his many interviews with well-known people happens to be on this occassion with a scientist that is researching and developing something entirely new in cell restoration for disabled humans. During the interview, Cassidy is accidentally exposed to a dangerous chemical formula that the scientist Dr. Serena Philips is devoloping which changes her body forever.Cassidy now has unbelievable powers and maybe even be indestructible. As she leaves with these new powers through her father and those close to her are kidnapped because of the same formula that turned her into a superhuman. Cassidy is now forced to put herself in possible danger to find out the culprit who kidnapped not only her dad but Dr. Serena Phillips. Which along the way introduces us to Dr. Phillips son, Emery Phlips, that leaves us even more in excited confusement. Is he connected to his mother's disappearance or just a concerned teen boy?

Some of the appeal of Cassidy Jones and the Secret Formula is the intense but rather fun super-powered fighting/action scenes. Whenever they come they bring in some exciting, vivid details along with suspense of the moment. There is a lot of major character driven moments. Also to be noted, is the big ground movement in the novel of the swift pace that keeps delivering in smooth torrents. 

While, Cassidy Jones and the Secret Formula isn't a rather new idea in science fiction its an entertaining read. There are some vastly interesting characters that exude genuine personality. There is a conclusion of great mystery still even if the finale concluded with some obvious reveals. Leaving your average reader thirsty for more to lead toward Book Two: Cassidy Jones and Vulcan's Gift.

Elise Stokes lives in Washington State, with her husband and four children. She was an elementary school teacher before becoming a full-time mom.
