Review of The Strange Case of Finley Jane (The Steampunk Chronicles #0.5| The Steampunk Chronicles Prequel ) by Kady Cross

Overview
Finley Jayne knows she's not 'normal'. Normal girls don't lose time, or have something inside them that makes them capable of remarkably violent things. Her behavior has already cost her one job, so when she's offered the lofty position of companion to Phoebe, a debutante recently engaged to Lord Vincent, she accepts, despite having no experience. Lord Vincent is a man of science with his automatons and inventions, but Finley is suspicious of his motives where Phoebe is concerned. She will do anything to protect her new friend, but what she discovers is even more monstrous than anything she could have imagined…

An ebook exclusive prequel to The Steampunk Chronicles.

A nice enough prequel short story exclusive that elaborates on the past of Finley Jayne before arriving at Griffin King's home (The Duke of Greythorne) and later meeting the group of superhuman band of youths. Has a similar tone and feel to that of The Girl in the Steel Corset (See: Review of The Girl in the Steel Corset: The Steampunk Chronicles #1 by Kady Cross) but was a different adventure for Miss Jayne. One where Finley alone is aware of a dark secret this time. You do get a mention of Griffin but in passing. Enough to make you think how close Griffin and Finley came to meeting even before The Girl in the Steel CorsetThe Strange Case of Finley Jayne is before Finley met Griffin King so lends a taste of mystery to see who the girl (Finley Jayne) really is. You'll get that in this exclusive e-book look. Concluding nicely and to lead into, The Girl in the Steel Corset, a full-length novel rather than a short story.
Look forward to:
How much trouble can Finley get into a lady's maid? Find out in The Girl in the Steel Corset the first story in Kady Cross's exciting new mini-series The STEAMPUNK CHRONICLES. Available wherever books are sold from Harlequin Teen.
Overall: Amazing read!
Genre: Science Fiction, Young Adult, Steampunk, Historical Fiction, Robots, Androids, Superhumans
