Review of A Beautiful Dark (A Beautiful Dark Trilogy #1) by Jocelyn Davis

Overview
On the night of Skye's seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye's life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.

In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

A Beautiful Dark is the first book in a captivating trilogy by debut author Jocelyn Davies.

A Beautiful Dark is another of the latest angel and fallen angel novels to have come out that is a mixture of being on a good track and also not.

Skye is an adopted teen girl that has a life that can pass for normal on every other day. Just as Skye is around a party at her local coffehouse to unwind her life spirals toward the paranormal.  Bringing in angels and fallen angels into the mix.  While at the shop she gets into a nice conversations with a strange guy. Later the same boy gets into a fight over something she is sure involves her.

Skye's attempt to put the coffeehouse's events behind are further complicated when the pair of guys who got in a fight enroll at her high school. Skye on several occasions gets pushed toward, Asher, the strange guy and comes to realize she migh have feelings for him. Skye isn't going to be the first to admit this. As, Skye prepares for a skiing trip and accident reveals things she's never would have believed in before. In a story while around a campfire Asher mentions that two celestial lovers from opposing forces fleed their duties for each other which later created chaos in their wake. This completely jolts Skye for it has a haunting touch to her in her memory.
Skye now knows that Asher and Devin (the other guy that Asher began a fight with at the coffeehouse Skye first sees Asher) aren't normal since they both came together. Her attempts at trying to get the truth out of these two is a waste of energy. They swear that they have been given strict orders to not say anything and keep watch over her. Skye won't let it go. Against Asher and Devin's wishes they decide maybe they should try to really help her understand her destiny and her own parents' involvement. Skye can't fully accept anything until she finds that she does have powers of her own which aren't only unique but surprising to the angels.

Things aren't celestial for long in an ending that will leave many in complete shock!
There is a lot that stood out for me in the story which does have a one-of-a-kind myth of angels and fallen angels. The romance while very much subtle still stands at the forefront throughout the passage of the novel especially after a moment of complete spontaneity.  Then there is the ending, it's so very astounding since it's unexpected. The not so-good having to do with the slow pace of the ground work at the beginning which slowly builds up. For those of you loving the slow start in novels that spurs up into amazing well what with everything above mentioned you'd take well to reading this. Enjoy!

A Beautiful Dark while for the most part was impressive in some areas in others it was lacking such as characters. They are there to supplement the plot really. This is most likely for the readers that will like a new different literary experience in angels and fallen angels with some romance added in for good measure. The debut of Jocelyn Davis is much welcomed and what with Book 2, after A Beautiful Dark coming named, Fractured Light, it's something to look forward to.
Overall: Good read
Genre: Paranormal, Angels and Fallen angels, Romance
