Miriam Black knows when you will die.
Still in her early twenties, she's foreseen hundreds of car crashes, heart attacks, strokes, suicides, and slow deaths by cancer. But when Miriam hitches a ride with truck driver Louis Darling and shakes his hand, she sees that in thirty days Louis will be gruesomely murdered while he calls her name.
Miriam has given up trying to save people; that only makes their deaths happen. But Louis will die because he met her, and she will be the next victim. No matter what she does she can't save Louis. But if she wants to stay alive, she'll have to try.

Blackbirds has to have been the type of book that goes under the category that decide toward reading since the author left an impression with their previous work. A case of being a fan of the author and in effect their work. Chuck Wendig had actually written Double Dead as his contribution to The Tomes of The Dead selection in cartel of books related to zombies. Double Dead, "Oh my, wonderful, captivating, and finally astounding". That about sums it up. Blackbirds though delves far into the realm of mythology with the totem of death personified.
So into the novel, Blackbirds, it was profanity ridden in most occasions and plain dark other times. Relax though even with profanity felt compelled to read onwards. There was that unmistakable quality that makes you want to do so. A story of redemption where Miriam Black, the protagonist, has tired of being an uncaring figure in the world and finally wants to care by saving the life and hopefully lives of people she has the power to save. Layered in all manner of complexity with common language at its core-Chuck Wendig's first in The Miriam Black series is a capable novel.

Chuck Wendig is a novelist, a screenwriter, and a freelance penmonkey.
He has contributed over two million words to the roleplaying game industry, and was the developer of the popular Hunter: The Vigil game line (White Wolf Game Studios / CCP).
He, along with writing partner Lance Weiler, is a fellow of the Sundance Film Festival Screenwriter's Lab (2010). Their short film, Pandemic, will show at the Sundance Film Festival 2011, and their feature film HiM is in development with producer Ted Hope.
Chuck's novel Double Dead will be out in November, 2011.
